The gastronomy in Singapore is a mixture of numerous different cultures that have made their influence felt on the island over the years. With influences from Portuguese, English, Indian, Indonesian, Malaysian, Chinese and Japanese cuisines, among others, you will be spoiled for choice in the bars and restaurants on the island. The cuisine is a true indication of the islands ethnic diversity.
The Singapore cuisine is a fusion of all the different cuisines mentioned above, from Portuguese to Japanese. With most influence naturally coming from the neighbouring countries such as Malaysia and Indonesia, and further countries within close proximity such as Vietnam and Thailand, there is an incredibly varied food offer on the island. With Chinese and Japanese restaurants in no short supply there are also various restaurants offering specialised European cuisine.
Many of the dishes you are likely to come across in Singapore include pork rib soup, vegetable and egg noodles, savoury rice dumpling and a whole variety of dishes with pork, chicken, fish and prawns as the staple ingredients.
Whether it be in one of the famous Hawker Centres, food courts, a local bar/cafe or one of the many international restaurants on offer, in Singapore you won't go hungry!
